Valerie Shuman, Principal
Ms. Shuman founded Shuman Consulting Group, LLC (SCG), a DBE-certified management consulting firm, in 2009. At SCG, she partners with customers to deliver new products, new markets and new ventures by developing strategy, market intelligence, product management, and marketing. Ms. Shuman previously served as Executive Director of Corporate Strategy for Ygomi LLC and its five subsidiaries, which were start-up and established firms providing software, helpdesk, automotive telematics & business process outsourcing. Prior to Ygomi, Ms. Shuman was Director of Strategy for Verety, a start-up which provided remote order-taking services for quick service restaurants. She has also held leadership roles at SEI and NAVTEQ in corporate venture development, marketing and strategy.
Ms. Shuman has served in a wide range of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) leadership roles since the industry first coalesced in the early 1990s, with particular focus in building new communities and technologies in the wireless and telematics arenas. Ms. Shuman was recently appointed Vice President, Industry Programs for the Connected Vehicle Trade Association, and Member, TRB NCHRP IDEA Committee. Previously, she successfully led many domestic and international standards activities for organizations such as ISO, ITU, GSC, IEEE, ANSI, ITSA, TRB, and SAE. Ms. Shuman has also frequently served as a global ITS liaison, promoting ITS requirements and opportunities to related industries and regional economic and standardization forums. Ms. Shuman is the author of numerous papers and articles on ITS and communication.
Ms. Shuman is named on four patents, and holds a Bachelor of Arts with highest honors from The University of Michigan.
